Artists Up For Trad Awards
November 14, 2011
Two artists currently on Atlantic Edge Music's roster have been nominated for awards at this year's Scottish Traditional Music Awards, which will be held in Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 3rd Dec 2011.
Douglas Montgomery from Orkney (fiddle player with both 'The Chair' and 'Saltfishforty') has been nominated in the 'Music Tutor of the Year' category. Douglas teaches fiddle throughout the islands, and also runs very successful traditional music groups for young musicians in Orkney, a number of whom have performed at various high profile events on the UK mainland.
Meantime, fiddle and guitar duo Ross Couper and Tom Oakes have been nominated in the 'Best Up-and-Coming Artist' category. Ross (fiddle) from Shetland and Tom (guitar / flute), who's originally from Devon, but who now lives in Edinburgh, have been making quite an impact on the national and international music scene of late and this particular nomination is just the latest accolade in what's proving to be a rapidly developing level of recognition and acclaim for both young musicians.
Another deserved nominee close to our hearts at Atlantic Edge Music is the 'Orkney Folk Festival' who have been nominated in 'Event of the Year'. A great festival and no mistake!!!
These particular awards are decided by a public voting process. To vote for Douglas, Ross and Tom, or the Orkney Folk Festival - and / or hosts of other great Scottish artists, events CD's etc etc - visit the Hand's Up for Trad Website - HERE
The voting remains open until Friday 18th November - so please do so as quickly as possible. Thanks so much for your votes.
The winners will be announced at the Trad Awards on Saturday 3rd December at the awards ceremony and gala concert in the Perth Concert Hall.
