Bid Tour Triumph
April 13, 2010
Shetland band 'Fiddlers' Bid' have just completed one of their longest UK tours to date, with a band spokesperson labelling the tour "....one of the best tours ever".
No less than six of the gigs sold out completely, with others selling well beyond expectations into the bargain.
The tour came hot on the heels of the band releasing their hugely acclaimed new album 'All Dressed in Yellow' and follows on from the album winning awards as 'Best Album of the Year' at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards and 'Best Instrumental Album of the Year' on the English based 'Sprial Earth' folk music website.
The tour itself took in venues across Scotland and the North of England including the Sage Gateshead. Heart of Hawick Theatre, Hawick, Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, Portnahaven Hall, Islay, Eastwood Park Theatre in Giffnock, Glasgow, Tolbooth, Stirling, the Perth Concert Hall, Aberdeen Music Hall and the Queens Hall, Edinburgh.
During the concert in the Aberdeen Music Hall someone filmed part of the gig and that's now on YouTube. Here's links to those items:
During the tour the band also received two five star reviews - one from the Scotsman following the Hawick gig - http://www.scotsman.com/features/Gig-review-Fiddler39s-Bid.6204674.jp and another in the Herald - http://www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents/music-reviews/fiddlers-bid-queen-s-hall-edinburgh-1.1020191 following the closing gig of the tour in the Queens Hall, Edinburgh.
Another excellent review from Hawick appeared on the Hi-Arts website - http://www.hi-arts.co.uk/Default.aspx.LocID-hianewqj7.RefLocID-hiacg5005.Lang-EN.htm
The bands manager Davie Gardner of Atlantic Edge Music Services said that the feedback from venues, the media and audiences alike had been incredibly positive. "To see everyone, including of course the band themselves, enjoying the gigs and the whole tour so much was incredibly gratifying" he said. "Everyone agrees the band are quite clearly playing and performing better than ever and in all honesty that's really saying something. It all bodes well for the upcoming gigs later this year. Everbody can't wait for those!!!"
Further live appearances are planned for later this year. The band will be in Shetland for the Shetland Folk Festival on the 1st and 2nd May, and then back in Shetland again for the 'Hamefarin' on the 26th June in the Clickimin Centre, Lerwick.
The band will also be touring again throughout the UK and the Channel Islands in September / October. Dates will be confirmed shortly.
