Fiddlers' Bid

Fiddlers' Bid

Shetland is internationally renowned for its fiddle music and Fiddlers' Bid fully epitomise the new, vibrant direction of Shetland traditional music – drawing their inspiration from its rich, deep and unique roots, while nevertheless creating a new and dynamic sound into the bargain – a sound that in truth could emanate from nowhere but Shetland to be honest.

Not that their sound is wholly indigenous to Shetland, given the fact they also draw from Scandinavian influences (as does much of Shetland music in general it has to be said) and indeed from American, Canadian and even eastern European inspirations into the bargain, blending this with their own home-grown roots and traditions.

The bands ethos is to play to the maximum on all occasions, enjoy themselves while doing so and fully entertain all of their audiences on all occasions, blending furious reels, jigs and polka’s with spine-tingling slow airs and haunting melodies, all with almost telepathic togetherness and jaw-dropping technical wizardry.

Fiercely fronted by four fiddles and richly augmented by some of the most wonderful clarsach (Scottish harp) playing you are likely to hear anywhere on the planet, not to mention a powerful ‘engine room’ of piano, guitar and bass, Fiddlers' Bid are now recognised and acclaimed the world over, having toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe and as far afield as North America, Japan and Australia (a tour which included a legendary gig at Sydney’s famous Opera House)

The band comprises:
Kevin Henderson (fiddle) Christopher Stout (fiddle and viola) Maurice Henderson (fiddle) Andrew Gifford (fiddle) Catriona McKay (clarsach and piano) Fionan De Barra (guitar) and Jonathon Ritch (bass) Whether in a festival setting or a large or small concert Fiddlers' Bid will ‘fire up’ (as we say in Shetland) any event and any audience you care (or even dare) to put in front of them. In all honesty this is one band not to be missed. Traditional music, sure....... and then some!!!!
