Flavour of Shetland

'Atlantic Edge Music Services' was once again contracted by Shetland Islands Council to programme and manage the live music stage at their four-day 'Flavour of Shetland' festival held on Lerwick's Victoria Pier in June 2010.

The festival, which seeks to promote the best in local food, crafts and music, together with a full programme of additional entertainment for visitors and locals of all ages, suffered from some indifferent weather conditions this year but that did nothing to dampen the spirits or indeed the enthusiasm of the 37,000 or so individuals who poured through the gates of the event during its four day run.

In addition to the event's 'normal' visitors, Lerwick also plays annual host to the yachts from the Bergen Race during the same weekend - with around 50 yachts and 200 crewmen in port / town during the event.

Bergen Yachts in Lerwick HarbourWith the music stages running for around 12 hours each day a host of local artists of all ages were featured - everyone from the Bells Brae School Choir and Samba band to the Fabulous Ramstams, Fullscelidh Spelemannslag and Scaldin Bragg entertained the crowds from morning till night. Indeed around 35 different acts featuring over 200 individual musicians performed on-stage throughout the weekend.

Fullsceilidh SpelemannslagDavie Gardner of Atlantic Edge Music said "Although the weather was generally grey and cold throughout the event that simply served to make the music marquee even more popular that usual. We had a real variety of artists taking part this year of all ages and everyone seemed to think the music programme was once again one of the events highlights. LIza Fullerton - Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year 2011
