John Goldie
Glasgow based guitarist John Goldie is considered by many to be one of the finest in the business.
John first started playing guitar at the age of six, and today his effortless blend of jazz and contemporary disciplines ensures he maintains an extremely wide audience cross-over appeal. Everything is up for the Goldie treatment - from jazz standards such as ‘Paper Moon’, ‘Summertime’ and ‘Moonlight in Vermont’ to contemporary classics such as Marvin Gaye’s ‘I Heard it Through the Grapevine’ and Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ – not to mention a myriad of his own compositions.
Whilst playing at a function a few years ago John was spotted by the musical director of a visiting Motown act from the USA and was invited to be the guitarist on their following tour, which ultimately led to him performing with the likes of the legendary George Benson.
Another chance meeting with guitar supremo Martin Taylor, and a subsequent invitation to perform alongside him, led to a change in career direction for John and now he also forms part of Martin’s much acclaimed group ‘Martin Taylor’s Spirit of Django’.
However John is also a highly acclaimed solo performer and composer, a trait recently highlighted in an international context when he penned the soundtrack for the BAFTA Award winning TV programme ‘Dear Green Place’.
John has also released a number of acclaimed solo albums, appeared regularly on radio and televisions shows and in the theatre, performed alongside some of the world’s greatest guitarists including Tommy Emmanuel and also formally endorses products for Martin Guitars and A.E.R acoustic amps - two of the biggest companies in the acoustic music world.
He has also toured extensively, including the far-east and in the USA - where he is regularly asked to participate in, and perform at, the Chet Atkins and Steve Kaufmann guitar schools.
John is a skilled and consummate guitarist and performer who continues to thrill, delight and astound audiences wherever he appears.
