New Year Bid

January 13th 2010

'Fiddlers' Bid' played two hugely successful, sell-out concerts in Shetland over the new year period.

The first, a fully acoustic concert promoted as ' Fiddlers' Bid's First Fittin Night', was held in the Muckle Roe Hall on New Year's night. Unfortunately band member Chris Stout was stranded on the Scottish mainland due to bad weather, however the rest of the band agreed to go ahead with the gig, playing to around 90 hugely appreciative folk of all ages packed into the small hall.

The first part of the evening took the form of a more formal concert with the second part given over to a much more informal music evening, where members of the audience were encouraged to join in a good-going session. Needless to say a great night was had by all concerned.

Chris eventually beat the weather to arrive in Shetland on the 2nd and in time for the bands second gig of the weekend in the Whiteness & Weisdale Hall on Sunday the 3rd - Fiddlers' Bid's 'New Year Celebration'.

Another sell out gig with 240 highly enthusiastic people jamming the hall to ultimately witness what many agree to be one of the finest Fiddlers' Bid's gigs many had seen.

The gig started with the second official showing (the first being in Muckle Roe) of the bands new seven-minute DVD -  filmed in Shetland during the bands previous visit home in August, when they launched their now award winning album 'All Dressed in Yellow'.

The evening was split into "three halves" as Chris put it, with the first two again being a more formal concert approach while in the third 'half' tables and chairs were packed away to allow for dancing. "We might have won album of the year but I dont think we'll ever win dance band of the year" joked Kevin. None of those sweating it out on the dance floor seemed to mind though!!!!

During the second half of the concert there was even a visit from three roaming skeklers who 'encouraged' members of the audience to take to the dance floor with them. Click here for a wee flavor of that!!!

So all in all a great duo of concerts and hopefully for band and audiences alike a great way to welcome in and celebrate new year 2010.

Fiddlers' Bid have a full-blown tour planned for April with further dates planned throughout the year, including at least two more in Shetland.
