Tall Ships 2011

'Atlantic Edge Music Services' have been contracted by Shetland Tall Ships 2011 Ltd to manage their entertainment programme for the visit of the Tall Ships Race to Lerwick in July 2011.

Around 100 vessels of all shapes and sizes, together with around 3000 crew members, are expected to be in port for the duration of the event. The vessels are due to visit Lerwick from Thursday 21st July 2011 until Sunday 24th July and throughout this time the organisers plan to have two large external entertaiment stages operating for extended periods each day - potentially from 11am - till midnight (or perhaps even later).

Full details have yet to be confirmed, but it is expected the stages will be located at Victoria Pier in Lerwick's town centre and Holsmgarth on the outskirts of the town centre.

In addition to the outside stages it is also expected that Shetland's new purpose built cinema and music venue 'Mareel', which should be open ahead of the event, will also offer a full programme of events for visitors and locals alike - promoted by Shetland Arts who will manage and operate the facility.

It is also expected that, together with many of the islands locally based artists, all Shetland's leading artists currently based on the UK mainland will be returning to perform at the event - but again full details have yet to be confirmed.

It is also hoped that at least one, perhaps two, nationally or internationally acclaimed acts can also be secured to headline the event on the Friday and Saturday evenings.

Manager of 'Atlantic Edge Music Services' Davie Gardner, who also programmed and managed the entertaiment stages for the last visit of the Tall Ships to Lerwick in 1999, said he was absolutely delighted to be involved again with the 2011 event. "This promises to be an even more spectacular, exciting and impactive event given the fact we now know roughly what to expect and can build upon the knowledge and experience we gained last time around" Davie said. "This will inevitably be one of the highest profile and most exciting events ever likely to come to Shetland and hopefully the entertainment programme we are now in the process of planning will do it justice" he said.

Further information will be posted on this website as the entertainment programme develops. Meanwhile why not visit http://www.tallshipsraceslerwick.com/ for more information on the overall event.
