Tommy Reilly / Pearl and the Puppets
November 16, 2011
Two names with an increasingly high profile on the national music scene - Tommy Reilly and Pearl and the Puppets (solo) – are set to perform several intimate, double-header gigs throughout the Highlands and Islands in November, including Shetland.
Tommy Reilly gained national recognition after winning the 2009 Channel 4 TV show ‘Orange Unsigned Act’. His debut single 'Gimme a Call' (his winning song on the show) went on to reach No.14 in the UK charts, while his debut album 'Words on the Floor' was released later that year to huge critical acclaim – attracting a great deal of national air-play into the bargain.
Having just finished his third album with producer Paul Savage (Admiral Fallow, Franz Ferdinand) at the wheel, Tommy is extremely eager to let his audience hear the songs live and solo. “At last I can play these songs live” was Tommy’s reaction to confirmation of the forthcoming Highlands and Islands Tour.
The album’s release date has not been confirmed as yet, but it sees Tommy going back to his solo acoustic roots and retaining the classic pop song-writing approach, while the production displays a darker undercurrent.
For these gigs he’ll be delving into his back catalogue with songs from ‘Words on the Floor’ and ‘Hello I’m Tommy Reilly’, while also introducing his audiences to new compositions from his forthcoming album.

Pearl and the Puppets (aka Katie Sutherland), is no stranger to the Scottish, UK or international music scene. 2008 saw her track 'Because I Do' used in a Vodaphone ad throughout Australia and New Zealand, while another one of her songs 'Make Me Smile' featured on a Victoria's Secret advert in the USA and an Orange (phone) advert in Romania.
Previously Pearl and the Puppets have supported Elton John, played at major festivals up and down the country - including Rockness and T in the Park – while she also appeared on the 2009/2010 BBC Hogmanay Live Show.

Davie Gardner of local company ‘Atlantic Edge Music Services’, who’s promoting the Shetland show on behalf of ‘Beyond’ in Inverness, said “This promises to be a great and very exclusive double-header gig with two very exciting young musicians. Individually they are both fantastic singer / songwriters, so their coming together like this should be something else indeed. It’s always a fairly unique experience to have top artists perform smaller gigs of this nature, giving fans a chance to get up close to the music and of course the artists”.
The Shetland show takes place in the British Legion, Lerwick on Wednesday 23rd November at 8pm (doors open at 7pm). Entry is restricted to over 16’s only. Proof of age may be required.
Tickets for the gig go on sale from High Level Music at 9am on Saturday 15th October priced £12.
Tickets can also be purchased on-line at www.beyondhighlands.com
In addition to Shetland the duo will also be performing in Inverness, Forres and Stornoway.
